Thank You for your interest in supporting Matthew's Helping Hands.
Our world was turned upside down when our son, Matthew, passed away in March 2015. Despite the pain and sadness, we soon realized that we were given a special purpose that day. With Matthew as our beacon and our inspiration, we set out to cherish his memory by giving back and helping others. Through Matthew's Helping Hands, we are blessed to share a little bit of Matthew's goodness with other children facing similar challenges that he experienced.
We are proud to report that we have spent the last year finalizing our business plan, fine-tuning our vision, and building a tremendous team of board members and volunteers. We are amazed every day at how much our community is willing to help, and we are excited and energized about the possibilities.
We are in the process of applying for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. While this process is ongoing, we have completed the necessary requirements to operate Matthew's Helping Hands and can accept donations. It is important to note that if our application is approved by the IRS, the effective date of this determination will be retroactive to the date Matthew's Helping Hands was formed (September 29, 2015 ). Therefore, any donation made prior to receiving this determination is tax deductible when our application with the IRS is approved.
We excited to be working with The Foundation Group, one of the nation's leading nonprofit formation and compliance experts, to complete the 501(c)(3) process. We are optimistic for a speedy approval. The following outlines other important steps we have completed since last year:
Received our Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) on August 31, 2015
Incorporated in North Carolina effective September 29, 2015
Registered with the Charitable Solicitation Licensing Division (CSL) of the North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State to solicit donations on April 14, 2016
Together, we know that we make a difference. Every donation does matter, and we are grateful for your consideration and generosity in supporting the Matthew's Helping Hands mission.
